Hi, my name is CJ McCormick, and I am running for re-election to the Alaska State House.
I was born and raised in Bethel, and the Kuskokwim has been my home my whole life. Throughout the years, I got to know my community through school sports, public service, volunteering, news reporting and working for my father’s small business, Back Creek Marine.
Before being elected into the Alaska State Legislature in 2022, I was appointed to the Bethel City Council at 23 years old. A year later, I was voted Vice Mayor. During my tenure, my focus was on addressing Bethel's critical public safety needs, helping marginalized people and navigating complicated municipal policy through the COVID-19 pandemic.
I served in the 33rd Legislature as the youngest member of the body and state’s first Gen Z legislator. As the youngest member, I strive to always make decisions with the generations to come in mind.
The Kuskokwim region is my home and family. It’s where I grew up. It’s for that reason I have a passion for serving my community. I’m driven to empower the people and state that have shaped me into the person I am today. It’s all about paying it forward.
